We are creating the tools necessary to link consumer products mentioned in any free text together with data found on manufacturer's websites, online reviews as well as merchant pages. Our goal is not to tie products and advertising directly to content via semantic targeting. Rather we aim to leverage technology to create engaging new content that is weaved into existing editorial as breadcrumbs designed to lead users from initial page context to a much broader spectrum of opportunity than would be possible with direct contextual matching and yield optimization alone. Here background knowledge is used to resolve product identities tolerating different ways in referencing and naming and to understand how the corresponding web of "things" can be leveraged to improve traditional content and social interaction.
